Greetings!
Would you like to take a break from your Star Wars themed Saturday for reading, writing, and randomness? I hope so! Even if you’re not celebrating May the 4th, allow this quote to inspire you:
Quote of the Week:
“Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose.”
Yoda
A Reading I Reflect on Often:
Five Moral Pieces by Umberto Eco. A late friend of mine gifted me this book about 20 years ago, and I still think about it (and him) often. In these essays, modern philosopher Umberto Eco reflects on topics like war and faith with his signature wit and style. Take some time to delve into his perspectives, and imagine what he might say now, considering how the world has changed since he wrote these in the 1990’s. It’s alarming how much he saw coming … and things no one back then would have anticipated.
My Favorite Writing Forum:
Critique Circle. As I end one writing project and consider the next, I am eager to share my new story ideas with my fellow “Critters.” This site is an excellent place to give and receive feedback (both skills I need to keep sharp); everyone is supportive and insightful, so the vibe is always encouraging. Give it a shot any time you want some tips on how to improve a chapter, or whenever you want to read some great writing and give some pointers to some talented people.
Random Charts That Blow My Mind:
28 Charts. A picture is worth a 1000 words … and a good chart might be worth even more. These various visuals reveal so many stunning facts that I had to slow my scroll and really let some of them sink in. (Yes, I’m partial to the many charts about food, but there are some other interesting topics as well!)
And that's it! Did you like what you saw? Please share Lau’s Little List with anyone who you think would enjoy an extra dose of reading, writing, and randomness in their lives!
I would greatly appreciate any feedback you'd like to provide. Which recommendation was your favorite? What would you like to see more or less of in the next installment? Do you have any other suggestions? Feel free to leave a comment below with your thoughts.
