Greetings!
I am so glad you are here for another weekly dose of reading, writing, and randomness. As per usual, I have a quote to kick things off:
Quote of the Week:
“The trick to viewing feedback as a gift is to be more worried about having blind spots than hearing about them.”
― James Clear
A Reading That Shook Me:
“The Tail End” by Tim Urban. Don't let Tim Urban's simplistic art fool you (in his own words, his artwork "looks like a five-year-old made them, but were actually drawn by a grown man"). On his blog "Wait But Why?", Urban explores deep and wide-ranging topics with approachable language, engaging humor, and deceptively clever drawings. Nowhere is his skill for visual representation more striking than in this viral post. You will never think about egg rolls or your parents the same way again.
A New Writing I’d Love Some Feedback On:
Fade. This sample chapter comes from a story I’ve been working on here and there for over a year now. In fact, I have so many potential storylines floating around that I struggle to focus on any particular one for long. I’d love some help determining which ones are most engaging so I can buckle down and work on one until it’s done.
Here’s the premise for this tale: A young girl awakens in a bleak future world, unsure of where she is or who she was. Numb to hunger and sleep, she works day and night to earn her keep by gathering Glow - the precious scraps of daylight captured through the thick haze and distilled into liquid energy. Accompanied by her loyal pet cat, she scours the ruins of a dangerous city, searching for clues about her past. But with each recovered piece of her old life, she discovers more about this grim new world - and the fight to untangle the two might just drag her down into a sleep she’ll never wake from.
Random Interview That Exceeded My (Admittedly Low) Expectations:
“A Lion Tracker’s Guide to Life: An Interview with Boyd Varty” from The Tim Ferriss Show. I’m sure the less I say about this podcast, the better. However, I will at least offer this: No matter how relevant lion-tracking is to your life goals, you should give this podcast episode a listen. If you aren’t sucked in after about fifteen minutes, let me know — I’d be fascinated to know why.
And that's it! Did you like what you saw? Please share Lau’s Little List with anyone who you think would enjoy an extra dose of reading, writing, and randomness in their lives!
I would greatly appreciate any feedback you'd like to provide. Which recommendation was your favorite? What would you like to see more or less of in the next installment? Do you have any other suggestions? Feel free to leave a comment below with your thoughts.
I hope you LOVE everything about this coming week!
